A million-dollar luxury development is threatening the Kédi quilombo, which has resisted for 120 years in one of Porto Alegre’s most prized neighborhoods, next to the golf course of the renowned Country Club.
At the end of 2023, the construction company CFL and the Zaffari Group, owners of the development, with the support of the City Hall, used their economic and political power to convince some residents to move, sparking division within the community. This video features testimonies from Tânia Dutra, a community leader, and Onir de Araújo, a lawyer from the Quilombola Front of Rio Grande do Sul.
