June 2021 was marked by the uprisings called Levante Indígena or Levante Pela Terra, due to barricades and violent confrontations by dozens of indigenous peoples expressing their indignation with the setback in the demarcation of indigenous lands. The Bill 490 legitimizes mining and exploitation of these lands, restricting demarcation, encouraging evangelization, and threatening peoples who have chosen to live in isolation from the white man. The activities that the bill legitimizes have always occurred, with greater or lesser encouragement from the state, even if more discreetly than the current administration. Just like the indigenous uprising, which is not new today and is not isolated in Brasilia either, the colonization was never peaceful. Since the invasion there was resistance and, being this PL approved or not, there will continue to be resistance.
