When we turn our attention to the knowledge and practices of Indigenous peoples, we find the foundations of community life and the strengthening of our collectives.
What we call “Mutirão” in Portuguese today has its origins in the terms “puxirum” or “moitará,” used by different Indigenous peoples. It embodies the idea of working together and providing mutual support through community or family-based organization in each region. A mutirão is not limited to completing a task; it is also a way to have fun and pass on knowledge, thereby strengthening communities.
